Background

Michael O'Neal has been in Law Enforcement for over ten years. He has served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer and is currently a part time Patrol Deputy Sheriff. In addition, Michael is also an instructor of Kid Escape, from John Hall, which teaches children the Grip, Dip, and Spin technique that could save their lives. He also teaches the "Safe Side Video" program from John Walsh (from America's Most Wanted) and Julie Clark (the creator of Baby Einstein) to parents and teachers. Michael got involved with Guard-A-Kid when his young daughter came home with an inadequate I.D. that simply displayed a picture on a high-gloss piece of paper that the parents had to fill out the back of. After talking with parents, less than 5% actually filled out the back. He became even more determined to protect our children when he found all of his friend's daughter's personal information on myspace.com. That's when Michael founded Guard-A-Kid of Maine.

Why Guard-A-Kid is so important

The national statistics are that over 200 children are reported missing daily in the United States. This is why Michael feels so passionately towards child safety and helping protect the children in our communities. Law Enforcement Officials reccomend that parents keep an updated informational background data file of their children in case of an emergency. Guard-A-Kid is a national company that provides a complete child safety and identification program throughout the United States. This program is widely implemented in schools and day-cares throughout the country.

The Guard-A-Kid Package

The basic package includes two laminated I.D. cards, 8x8 sheets with all the child's information. We use a state-of-the-art digital finger print scanner. We take all ten fingers indivdually and put this onto a CD-ROM, which is very important to have. If a child is missing, the information on this CD-ROM can be emailed to law enforcement agencies, patrol cars, and across state borders in seconds. The total cost of this package is $20.00. Mission

Michael's mission is to I.D. all the children in the state of Maine, offering its service annually at every elementary school on "I.D. Day" (similar to picture day). This is a cost service; however there is also an oppurtunity to implement this service as a fundraiser or sponsorship.
